“Exclusively Your.”—
And You Can Have It!
There's been publicity of ell kinds on the Blue Ridge Music Festival, but one Betty Beale, in the Evening Star of recent date, entitled “Exclusively Yours" takes the cake! That lady should be handed the trophy, for she has furnished more amusement to the local people than any other newspaper contributor. '
The lady's story runs like this:
“The accent in the Virginia Hunt Country this week end is not on the hounds, the horses or even the houses. It’s on the opening—and it may some day be termed historic—-of the Blue Ridge Music Festival.
“Landowners, fox hunters and just plain residents from around Warren ton and Middleburg, from the Shenandoah Valley, from, in fact, .numerous counties all the iway up to Washington, D.C., will head for little Washington, >Va., Sunday afternoon for the pre-< micro of Virginia’s Tanglewood.’’
“Seated ip the idyllic surroundings of a grove of locust trees they will bear a full symphony orchestra play its first concert at the old Avon Mill which the best families in Rappahannock County thfemselves converted into an outdoor concert stage. In shirtsleeves .and dungarees they ipent a good part of the summer sawing and painting the mill and clearing the land up to Rush River.’’
The lady’s dissertation ain’t concluded yet, but we pause for breath, since that last paragraph just about took our breath away. “Best families in Rappahannock County” eh? Upon -consulting Paul Walker, who was contractor in charge of restoring the old mill, the following facts were gleaned: he and George Davis worked on .the old mill, yes; but he was born in Washington, D.C., and George Davis, is from Warrenton.
Let’s see, now, hack to our lady’s story on the Festival. Oh, yes, she put Mr. Haaker’s name in the story twice. One time she spelled it Baker and the next time Hakker. It’s to be hoped thd pianist and conductor isn’t sensitive about how people spell his name; if Ihe is, he’s spent an unhappy evening.
Continues our columnist: “Federal Reserve Board Governor Jim Vardaman is one of the directors of the Blue Ridge Music Festival Association, and editor and novelist Ralph Ingersoll and his wife of New York were among the first to become members. They are currently doing over an old Federal period house they have purchased near little Washington.”
