NEW PENALTY ADDED FOR FAILURE TO FILE TAX
A new penalty of 10%, with a minimum 6f $2.00, has been put on this year for failure to file all personal property returns after May 1. It used to be that a penalty was placed for failure to file intangible and personal property tax declarations; this year the penalty is on tangible, and intangible as well.
The Commissioner says this new penalty will probably cause the same complaints »as former penalties; it brings out the age-old excuse, “But I didn’t know about it.”
The May 1 deadline for filing personal property taxes is the same each year. Good advice says file the tax return early and be sure you avoid any extra penalty.
