Rappahannock Cotmty is conveniently located to two very useful state labs. One is the State Health Department Laboratory located at Luray, Virginia. The other lab is a Diagnostic Lab located at Warrenton.
The laboratory at Luray is one of several laboratories operated by the Health Department as a service to the public. The head) of this lab is Geosge Robert Jones, bacteriologist, who has worked in labs since 1923, three years of which was spent as an assistant laboratory director in an Army Medical Laboratory. To give an example of the magnitude of the work handled by this lab, a total of 40,090 tests were run in 1952. These tests and examinations included milk and water examinations, rabies examinations for intestional parasites, enteric dysentery, typhoid and paratyphoid fever, and other diseases; serologies, .blood examination for ayphillis and occasionally for such diseases as malta fever, brucelosis, rabit fever, rocky mountain qtotted fever, and others.
