Frait School Be Held
At Sperryrille, Feb. 26
The Fruit School for orchardists ' Rappahannock and surrounding . counties will be held at Sperryville School auditorium Thursday, February 26, according to W. H. Lyne County Agent. - The program, prepared by the VPI Horticultural Depart ment, after receiving suggested topics from local growers is as follows:
10 .-00 a.m.—What is ahead in apple and peach production. Dr. W. P. Judkins, Head, Dept, of Horticulture, VPI.
10:30 a.m.—A cultural program for quality fruit production, A. H. Teske, Horticulturist, VPI.
11 •'00 a.m.—The use and effect of stop-drop sprays, Dr. George Mattus, Experiment Station, VPL
11:30 a.m.—Better mouse control in orchards, Dr. Frank Horsfall, Experiment Station, VPI.
12:00 noon—-Lunch.
1:15 p.m.—Timing and applying sprays for insect control, Dr. M. L. Babb, Piedmont Research Laboratory, Charlottesville. 1:45 ep.ra.—Controlling apple disease without sulfur, Dr. A. B. Groves, Winchester Research Laboratory-, Winchester.
fcrlS p.m.—The dwarf apple tree situation and pollination, Dr. W. P. Judkins, Head Department of Horticulture, VPI.
Question and Answer period.
Another topic of much local concern which will be covered is the qestion of the proposed apple tax.
All orchardista of Northern Virginia will also be interested in the display and demonstration of orchard equipment to be held at the Gene Wood orchard located just south of Sperryville on Route 622.
