Newbill Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Miller of Washington, and members of the Rappahannock 4-H Livestock Judging team won third prize in the Angus classes at the judging contest held last Saturday at Winchester in competition with over 100 F.F.A. and 4-H members of this area. The Rappahannock 4-H team composed of Newbill Miller Archie Bailey Jr., and Jacob Sisk placed 15th in competition with 35 to 36 other teams in judging the three breeds of beef cattle.
T. V. Williams of Castleton purchased at the Tri-Breed Sale what is felt to be by several local cattlemen the best Hereford bull ever to come to Rappahannock County. Certainly this is the best looking Hereford your scribe has ever known to be locally owned. Congratulations Thomas! With a declining beef market quality is all the more important. I hope and believe this herd sire will prove an economical move. Hereford breeders, go see this animal. I’m sure Thomas will be proud to show him off.
The Farm and Home Water Supply System Survey has been completed. Community representatives of farm men and women, representatives of power companies, water system dealers, appliance dealers, electrical contractors, plumbers, well diggers, credit organizations, local newspapers, radio stations and civic organizations have been invited to attend a second county-wide homewater-supply planning meeting to be held Friday night, May 22 at 8 p.m. at Washington Court House to determine final plans on how they can help farmstead owners get satisfactory water systems installed where such is wanted.
RETURNS FROM HOSPITAL
Frank D. Coffey returned on Friday from University Hospital where he hacF been a patient for several weeks. His condition is reported to be improved although he is still confined tp his bed. Mr. Coffey would like to express his most— sincere thanks to all friends and relatives who have so generously remembered him during his illness, with cards, letters, visits, etc and all other expressions of interest. Among the many neighbors and friends who called to see him on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Rector and daughter of Flint Hill and Rev. Menchhofer. On Saturday his three neices, Mrs. C. E. Muterspangh, Mrs. Randolph Jones and Mrs. Roy Taylor of Arlington visited him.
