As if to make up for its tardy appearance, winter arrived in Rappahannock early this week in a tortent of snow storms accompanied by strong winds. The icy roads and high snow drifts spelled caution to the driver but to the school children who were spared several days of lessons, the snow spelled sleigh riding, loafing and "good times.”
Harris Hollow has reported a low of 5 degrees above while Sperryville fell to 4 above. Washington can claim nothing under 9 above.

hung outside a window, do we ever think of the State highway men— out on the road night and day— who make it possible for us to go about our daily business. These men sometimes work around the clock in near-zero weather, and are always courteous and willing to lend a helping hand when we are unfortunate enough to hit a slick place in the road and slide into the ditch. I say hats off to the watchmen of our highways.

Being a “collector” in a charity drive is often a rather thankless job. It consumes time and leads to many headaches. Yet there is compensation when you see your county achieves * 113% of its quota (as Rappahannock did in the recent U SO drive) and there is pride and humility whin you see a small tot walk when but for your help he would have spent a life abed.
