“BUCKY” CHOSEN AS EASTER SEAL CHILD
Five-year-old, blonde-head, blueeyed Raymond "Bucky” Sloper, Falls Church, Virginia, has been chosen as the 1954 Easter Seal Child of the Virginia Society for Crippled Children and Adults. . The announcement of his selection has been made by Dr. William T. Sanger, Richmond, President of the Easter Seal Society.
“Bucky"* was chosen after a statewide search for a representative of all crippled children in Virginia who are helped each year by Easter Seals. He will be featured~mTthepublicity” of the Society’s forthcoming Easter Seal Campaign from March 18 to April 18.
"Bucky” is the young of two children of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Sloper, 315 Arch Street, Falls Church.
He had ifteasles when he was about a year and a half old. One week later, he developed encephalities which resulted in paralysis of the left side and recurrent convulsive seizures.
He was $een initially in the Northern. Virginia Crippled Children’s Ginic at Arlington in August, 1949. Later he was examined in the AntiConvulsive Field Ginic at Arlington and subsequently given a complete seizure control work-up in the Anti-Convulsive Clinic at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
^ “Bucky” continues under the supervision of the Northern Virginia Crippled Children’s Clinic and the Anti-Convulsive Clinic. His condition has improved steadily,'with the convulsive seizures fairly well under control. He receives physical therapy regularly, ^nd his family works out occupational therapy and bi-manual exercises at home.
