After Jesus had spoken of the vine and the branches and of our dependence upon-Hitn^a^ the-souree^fall good and of all righteousness in life, He promised the Comforter as one who will sit alongside of us to strengthen, support and comfort us in our trials and persecutions /because of our witnessing for Him. He begins the 16th chapter with a warning about persecutipns. Some will persecute His followers because they think they are doing God a service in getting rid of these changes of traditious, etc. They will 'do this .4% ignorance because they do not really know God afld since they do not know Him, they are zealous for the established and conventional methods of worship. Their religion is not personal, but second hand-handed down from one generation to another and they seek to encase it in a system of hard and fast ritual in order to preserve it. Rut Christianity is a living organism and cannot be encased in any hard and fast ecclesiastical system. Their ignorance will not exempt them from punishment and responsibility.
Now in verses 7-11 Jesus speaks of the work of the Holy Spirit. First of all He will reprove,the world of sin. “That is He will prick the conscience of men and convict them of sin. .Awaken them to the effects and results of sin. He will reveal to them that they are condemned because of unbelief in Christ and that their. only hope is in and through Christ as our Saviour through faith and repentance. The Holy Spirit will also convict the world-of righteousness,
