1 Henings Entertain Garden Club At
“Apple Tree Cottage”
Between 60 and 65 members of the Rappahannock Garden Club, their families and friends, gathered at “Apple Tree Cottage” between 3 and 6 o’clock Sunday afternoon to enjoy with their host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Hening, their beautifully and tastefully decorated home and rock garden.
Mrs. Eugene Wood and Mrs. Rodes Brown Jr. presided over the punch bowls in the patio and house.
Mrs. George H. Davis Jr. and Mrs. Harry Trescott and Mrs. Hening escorted the guests through the garden and described the many species of flowers. Misses Peggy Pillar, Ann Yates, Carolyn Turner and Mary Norman Davis acted as junior escorts.
The weather was perfect and the picturesque garden with its mass of magnificient iris, lovely sweet william, columbine, roses and many other blooming plants set between dwarf box bushes with gorgeous climbing roses depicted the charm and character of the hostess. * . -
Indeed one became so enchanted with gardens of their spot nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the work of God and man in evidence, that this single thought came to each attending that: “God is in His Heaven and all is right with the world.”
