Farmers whose wheat acreage has been determined to be in excess of their farm allotments have only until next Tuesday, June l— to utilize the excess acreage to avoid wheat marketing quota penalties, the Chairman of Rappahannock County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee said today.
Mr. Barksdale said that using the excess wheat acreage as green manure crop, for pasture, hay, or silage will eliminate marketing quota penalties and prevent loss of wheat price support for farmers who have 1954 wheat allotments. To be eligible for price support a farmer may not exceed his allotment. To avoid marketing penalty, the farm wheat acreage may not exceed the larger of the farm allotment or 15 acres.
Any excess wheat which has not been untilized in any one of these ways after June 1, will be considered excess wheat whether or not it is harvested and marketing quota penalty in the amount of $1.12 per bushel must be paid to the county ASC office, the chairman explained.
