HELP! HELP!
According to Mr. Webster the word auxiliary is defined as a helper or anything that helps.
When an auxiliary to a Fire Department is organized one would suppose its purpose is to help the department not vice versa.
When the auxiliary falls into the hands of a dictator, who rules the President and tries to rule the participating members, and relies on the firemen for kitchen furnishings, or would rather buy unnecessary kitchen equipment than to help pay for a new fire engine; when their ultimate goal is to have a more elaborate hall and kitchen to show off and crow about than to have essential fire fighting equipment they have defeated their purpose and it’s time to haul in the flag for it’s flying under false colors.
Sure we want the best . . . the best necessary fire equipment possible for the protection of our community.
Let’s not destroy the good which could come from an auxiliary or defeat ourselves by putting pomp and pageantry foremost in our minds.
Come on girls lets get back in harness and pull together. Makes no difference if your girdle is a two way stretch; if you stretch it far enough it’s bound to split. —Interested Amissville Bystander
