The Board of Supervisors of _Northumberland County have struck upon a unique manner for increasing their local revenue. They have adopted several ordinances which are designed to capture for county Use revenue "which at present goes/to the state. The ordinances covensuch offenses as disorderly conduct, drunken — driving, drunkeness in public and the use of profane and provocative language. By making these acts a violation of county law, they do not break state laws, but rather parallel them. They may, if passed, bring a nice little sum into the treasurey. We view the result of these proposals with interest. Perhaps Rappahannock may profit by Northumberland’s example. This extra money could very well be the source of funds for these in-the• future schools.

Some weeks ago, Leon Green-’ away advanced the idea of a con-signment sale which would give _the farmers and other citizens a market for machinery and materials that are good but just not needed by them—simultaneously it would make available to the buyer various products at a relatively low cost. Several persons have made known their interest in such a sale, during these intervening weeks. Many more, however, must indicate their approval of the project before it would be logical to initiate the sales. Several citizens are anxious to begin the sales or at least advance plans, so they could have an early start in the spring. Think about these sales, and talk over the idea with your neighbors. Voice your approval or your rejection of «this plan, and the reasons you feel as you do.
