He is married to the' former Miss Frances Rivercomb, of Rap.. pahannock County, and they have two daughters, Jane and Ann Kauffman. He served as a member of the Advisory Council of Northern Illinois College of Optometry and is a member of the American Acade~~ my of Optometry and American_ Optometric ‘Association. He is a member and a past president of the Virginia Academy of Optometry, the Virginia Optometric Associa_tion and the Virginia Society of Visual Sciences. He is a member and director of the Suffolk Lions Club and takes an active part in the Sight Conservation program.
U. S. Navy Notice
Qualified veterans from other branches of the Armed Forces are now being offered enlistment in the U. S. Navy at the pay grade of a third class petty officer. Chief James H. Carwile, of the i U. S. Navy Recruiting Branch Station at the Post Office Building, Culpeper, Virginia, said today that certain qualified personnel who were discharged with the rank of sergeant or higher (or equivalent) in the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast "Guard may be enlisted as third class petty officer, providing they enlist within a year of last discharge.
Applicants who were discharged in the grade of corporal or ldWer (or equivalent) may be enlisted in the general apprenticeships of seamen, firearm, airman or stewardsman in the pay grade corresponding to that held at the time of discharge.
Chief Carwile will be at the Post Office in Sperryville, Virginia each Tuesday from 10:00 a.m.; at the Post Office in Washington, Virginia at 11:15 a.m.; and at the Post Office^ in FlintHill from 11:30 to noon.
