Campbell says let s nave a tree planting demonstration of at least one acre along the highway on land that is not well suited to pasture much less crops. A. B. Lyon, Extension Forester of V. P. I., says he can get us trees without cost for such a demonstration and I’m sure the older 4-H' boys, Vo-Ag. students as well as Boys Scouts will lend a helping hand.
In one. Virginia county, farmers are paying one organized group of boys lc per tree for planting—this group is planting 50,000 trees. Leaving a seed tree is another good way of getting desirable sped on the land instead of weed trees of no potential value..
What about this business of grazing wood lands. Look at an area of grazed woods and study it a while. You’ll find; no young trees coming on, many trees with dead limbs in the top, exposed roots, bark skinned off tree trunks and compacted soil that can’t take up much water.
Talk about water conservation.. trees, fenced trees are a natural. Costs? Bub Gore says A. S.
