Replant this acre with a desirable tree that will make you money or at least be a monument far prettier and more valuable to your off spring than a block of granite after you’re departed .from this world. Harsh words and thoughts but true nevertheless. And there’s the report from A. B. Lyon of 140 acres yielding 881,000 bd. feet timber (mature trees only) which was sold recently for the top bid of $33,999.00 or about $38.00 per thousand on the stump. Keep good soil in crops and pasture, yes, but /would take a lot of fertilizer, a lot of cultivation, a lot of work to get 140 acres of some of our land that is in pasture, (or should I say exercise lots) or on which we may be trying to grow corn to bring in this kind of cash w’hen a timber crop did do it. A crop that requires no fertilizer, no cultivation and very little sweat.
VPI Studies Effect Of Hormone Implant On Growth of Lambs
The effects of implants of pellets containing estrone (female sex hormone) on growth rates and carcass quality of suckling lambs on grass will be studied this summer at VPI Agricultural Experiment Station. ■ The use of similar hormone pellets in weaned lambs fed in the dry lot has been found by several experiment stations in the Midwest to increase the rate and efficiency of gain, but to distinctly lower quality of the carcasses. Very little information is available on the effects of such treatment on suckling lambs.
The present VPI test is designed ■ to measure the value of two kinds of hormone' pellets, implanted at 35 pounds aqd at 50 pounds, on the growth rates, carcass quality, and profits from spring lambs.
