Of Carnival—1956
The Annual Carnival sponsored by the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department last Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights has been described as being most successful.
The rain stayed away except for a very brief shower on Saturday night. Even then, the carnival spirit prevailed as the people sought shelter on the porch of the packing house and as soon as the rain was over they resumed their merrymaking.
A huge country ham was the prize won by Mr. Carroll Pearson of Hume, Va.
The Plymouth Station Wagon was given to Mr. H. C. McPeak of Culpeper, Va.
Anther highlight on Saturday night was the coronation of Miss Doris Anne Atkins as “Carnival Queen — Miss Wakefield." Doris Anne is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Atkins of Flint Hill and is a sophomore at Rappahannock County High School..
Winners of the Savings Bonds were as follows: $100 Bond, Mrs. Lester Burke, Washington; $50.00 Bond, Mr. B. F. Cooke, Warrenton ; $25.00 Bond, Mr. John Greenhalgh, Washington, D. C.
The children from near and far kept the merry-go-round and the kiddie cars busy.
Flint Hill’s first Firemen’s Parade was enjoyed by the hundreds of people that the lined the street of Flint Hill.
