Canned Poultry
Cleared Of Blame
The Air Force has informed Representative Burr P. 'Harrison (D., Virginia) that no basis has been found for the recent charge of a member of the British Parliament that shipments of canned poultry from the United States, intended for Air Force personnel, were transmitting a virus disease of poultry to the British Isles.
Mr. Harrison, whose district includes the Shenandoah Valley, a major poultry-producing region, queried Air Force headquarfers after noting press reports from England.
In it's reply, the Air Force states that it had taken the matter up with the British Government, ajid that the Joint Parliamentary Secretary had acknowledged that “imports tinder the strict licenses issued to the United States Air Force in England do not result in the spreading of the poultry virus in that country.”
In addition, the Air Force informed the Virginia legislator:
“The Office of the Surgeon General, United States Air Force, further advises that the canned poultry obtained for use by Air Force personnel is thoroughly inspected and found completely safe and fit for human consumption in all respects.”
