He emphasized that falls are among the,three leading causes of death to farm children!. Many of these occur when children are at play on tractors, balers and other equipment. Serious maiming also can result from children being ah lowed too near these machines when they are in operation. To avoid bad falls, children should be taught to keep off silos, windmills, and water tanks.
Fire and firearms are two additional hazards which cause frequent accidents to farm children. As with other children, matches, cigarettes and lighters should be kept out of reach of farm youngsters. Inflammables such as fuel for farm equipment should be kept under lock and key.
The farm child often learns to hunt at an early age; but until he is old enough to learn to handle them properly, guns and ammunition should be kept locked up. never loaded and in easily accessible place as closets and drawers.
