One of our fruit growers inquired of a new chemical supposedly effective in preventing apple storage scald. I Contacted Dr. Jack Rollins, Extension Horticulturist, receiving the following reply:
“The chemical you refer to in your letter of July 15 is Stantoquin. This material will be marketed this fall under the trade name, “Stop Scald". Roth California Spray Chemical Company and Niagra Spray Chemical Company will be handling the material. It has been included in our research program for the last two or three years and is relatively effective. The material received a tolerance and label clearance only one week ago. W.e have plans to submit an article on some of the detail uses I of this material in the August issue of 1'irgima Fruit. VVe will also send out some information through our spray notices in the near future.
As far as pitting the material on in thg form of a spray, this can be done but is likely to be somewhat impractical because it would have to be put on only a day or two before harvest, if it is to be
