effective. 'Even then, if there is rain between application and harvest, its effectiveness will be great- ■ ly reduced. Because it has to be applied so close to harvest 1 think that it would be best to conside' its application separately rather than with insecticides or fungicides.
I personally believe, Bill, that the more practical use of this chemical will be in the form of a dip where the fruit may be treated sometime just prior to or during the packing operation. And incidentally, Dr. George Mattus’ results hare been somewhat better with dips than with orchard spray applications. Bill, there is also one other consideration and that is that it would require a much more active chemical to spray the trees prior to harvest than it would to dip the fruit following harvest.
We are going to suggest growers try Santoquin this fall for scald control, however, some of the best methods of applying this chemical will still have to be W’orked out.
There is one other material that you may have heard about which has given even more effective control in research studies and that is diphenvlamine, frequently referred to as D&P, however, this particular chemical has not been given label clearance as yet. Feeding tests are now being conducted and if this chemical receives label clearance, it probably will not come about until some time early next year.
