John, who is dressed only in his shirt, is being encouraged to accept the bird by his nurse who, in spite of the simplicity of her clothes, is wearing a charming necklace of brilliant blue beads.
The artist, whose name is unknown, has placed this lively scene on an unusually large canvas, 56 inches high by 69 inches wide, and in a delightful setting of trees with a corner of the house showing and a view of the mountains seen through the trees.
