Hikers Make Old Rap*
After talking and planning for a year the Rappahannock Hiking Club climbed Old Rag Mountain on Sunday, December 4. Thirtyfive or so hikers began the ascent at 10:25 from Etlan and after a leisurely trip up the mountain and lunch on the summit, they returned at 4 pun.
The weather was “made to order’’ with clear skies and very moderate temperatures. As a matter of fact some of us were slightly over dressed, expecting it to be much cooler than it was.
A road has been made up the mountain which is 3,295 feet in elevation, but does not extend entireto the top. Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Estes, by way of a jeep, joined those hiking at the shelter and ladled out venison stew, and coffee.
‘Except for a few holes in our socks and sotne tired and sore muscles the next day, all survived the eight-mile trip.
