A hearing on telephone rates and service was held Monday, March 11 at Reynolds Baptist Church, Spcrryville with representatives of Chesapeake &! Potomac and Virginia Telephone & Telegraph Companies and many interested citizens representing business, government, churches, civic and Cultural organizations, Extension Service, etc. This meeting was the outcome of a resolutionjnade last year by the Rappahanrjiock Farm Bureau, which felt .that the county was divided and progress hampered by the lack of a county wide exchange free of toll charges.
Mr. Harry Lindsey of Culpeper spoke for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephqne Company while Mr. Joe B. Compton, Front Royal and Mr. Garnett of Charlottesville acter in behalf of Virginia Telephone and Telegraph. Both of these companies service Rappahannock County. Gen. Dariielj Noce, President of Rappahannock jFarm Bureau acted as chairman of the hearing, assister by Mr. C. E. Johnson, Jr. The major jcomplaint laid before the utility! companies was the fact that calk could not be made over the entire county without entailing a toll charge.
