the group by Mrs. Thompson are: always soak charcoal in charcoal lighter, never in gasoline or kerosene, for several hours before using. A tight covered can may be kept with soaked charcoal in it during the summer. Gasoline and kerosene are dangerous for starting fires and often give foods an unpleasant taste.
Coat your pans with soap before using over an open fire. This nfiikes washing much easier. Also the grill may be partly cleaned by shaking it in a sand pile and then finishing it with steel wool.
Foods cooked on the open grills were broiled fish fillet, barbecued half of chicken, bacon, potatoes baked in aluminum foil, rice with chicken in foil, hamburger and vegetables, carrots, etc. in foil and for dessert, graham crackers with melted Hershey bar and roasted marshmallows.
