Mrs. Lula Sutphin
Mrs. Lula C. Sutphin, 86, died at her home at 716 S. Washington St., Winchester, Saturday afternoon. She had been an invalid since 1950.
Mrs. Sutphin was bom July 11, 1875 at Fawcett’s Gap in Frederick county, a daughter of the late Daniel C. and Sarah Hershberger Funkhouser.
She was married to John Edward Sutphin on January 29, 1901. At that time Mr. Sutphin was the surveyor for Rappahannock county, a position he held for a number of years. After their marriage they lived in Flint Hill until moving to Winchester in 1923. Mr. Sutphin died September 7, 1954.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and. of the Women’s Bible Class of that church. She was a Real Daughter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and held her membership in the Turner Ashby Chapter.
Mrs. Sutphin was the oldest of eight children of whom only the youngest, Miss Anna B. Funkhouser of Winchester, survives.
Surviving Mrs. Sutphin in addition to her sister are five children: Mrs. Marye S. Jones, Mrs. C. Bruce (Maynard) Harlee, Mrs. George F. (Virginia) Davis,' Mrs. D. (>Kar (Cornelia) Louderback
