This depends solely on the soil I type; whether it is a sandy loam, | a silt loam or a clay loam. We have all four here in Rappahannock: Congaree fine sandy loam is a first bottom soil type, Louisburg sandy loam i s throughout our Arkonsic sandstone belt which lies from The Kennels in a southwesterly direction to Round Hill and on to the county line. There are four or five other sandy loam types.
Loams are our predominating types, however we have twelve silt loam types scattered all over the county as well as five clay loam types
Remember our test resulted in a pH of 5.5; the following shows the amount of limestone per acre reqquired to raise acidity to the desired 6.5 pH.
