Promoted In Navy
John W. Brown, RM2, U.S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Brown of Spcrryville, Virginia was recently advanced to Radioman Second Class as a re*' suit of the August Navy-wide examination in rating.
Brown is presently serving with the Staff of Commander Carrier, Division Two aboard the heavy attack carrier USS Independence (CVA-62) operating with the U.S. Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean. USS Independence is capable of delivering nuclear or, conventional strikes against farranging enemy targets.
Aboard ship Brown is a communications supervisor. His primary duty consists of insuring that radio messages are properly routed and that necessary action requirements are met.
Prior to entering the Navy in June of 1958, Brown graduated from Rappahannock County High School in Washington, Virginia.
He is married to the former Miss Shirey B. Keeney whose parents reside at 201 Mechanic Street, Luray, Virginia. Mrs. Brown is residing in Norfolk, Virginia during her husband's absence. Brown is expected to return to Norfolk, Virginia around December 19. Asked if he had anything to add to the interview, Brown said,
