Flowering pot plants are popular for holiday giving but too often they are allowed to bloom and die.
Paul L. Smeal, assistant horticulturist at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, has some tips for people who would like to see their Qiristmas plants survive to bloom another day.
The poinsettia is a Christmas favorite. It is not the easiest plant to grow, but will respond to good care. It is extremely sensitive to temperature changes, so keep it out of drafts in the 60 to 75 degree range. Use water of room temperature. Set the plant back from the window at night so it won’t chill. During the day give it bright light, but no sun while the bracts last.
