Continued from page two heavier and heavier, inevitably service will become so bad, it is feared, that the people will begin to. seek out private practitioners, o f which there are still a few in Britain. Dr. Searle sees the possibility of a complete breakdown in the service within a relatively few years if things continue to igo as they have. Others believe the only answer to the problem will be to move away from the original concept of completely tax-paid medicine and institute a system in which a nominal fee is charged for every visit to the doctor and modest fees are charged for hospitalization.
Britain’s experience with state medicine should raise serious questions in the minds of us Americans who are being told it would be good for us in this country. Would it?
