The new pension Jaw did not wipe out the old pension program for those who were under it on June 30, 1960, but it did offer aj choice of remaining under the old program, or switching to the new. Veterans applying now have no choice but must go under the new law. Contrary to popular belief, there is no change in the basic requirements. Under either law a veteran must have had a minimum of 90 days active wartime service or if less than 90 days, he must have been discharged for a disability incurred in line of duty: he must be found permanently incapable of following substantially gainful employment because of physical or mental disability; and his income may not exceed certain limits gauged on his dependency situation'.
