farm workers in the state was constant from 1960 through 1961. From 1958 through 1959, the decrease was only 4,000 persons. If this present trend continues, the number of farm laborers in Virginia can be expected to decrease for the next 2 to 3 years at a surprisingly slow rate. Past experience, however, shows that the rate of decrease will depend largely on the stability of the economy in general. If the present trend toward increased prosperity in non-farm sectors continues, Virginia’s farm labor force can be expected to drop at a faster rate than projected.
