Standby Reservists are subject to orders to active duty in event of war or national Emergency declared by Congress, but only after their availability has been determined by Selective Service.
When an Armed Service transfers a man to the Standby Reserve, notification is mailed to his Selective Service Local Board. When a reservist is transferred out of the Standby Reserve at the termination of obligation, the Armed Forces notify the1 Local Board. The Local Boards have nothing to do with either transferring a man into or out of theStandby Reserve. The categories for Reservists are as follows: I-R (available).
