A graveside funeral' service was held Monday, June 3, 1963 at 4 p.m. at Mitchells Presbyterian Church Cemetery for Daniel French Slaughter who died early Sunday morning at his home near Mitchells. Born in Culpeper county February 20, 1900, Mr. Slaughter was a lifelong reel, dent and was engaged in farming, dairying and the raising of beef cattle. He was a graduate of Mitchells High School and attended the University of Virginia. Mr. Slaughter represented Culpeper and Rappahannock counties in the House of Delegates of Virginia from 1944 until 1954. He was a member of the Democratic Central Committee, the Culpeper County School Trustee Electoral Board, the Mitchells Ruritan Club and an elder in the Mitchells Presbyterian Church. He is survived.by his wife, Mrs. Caroline Strother Slaughter, two sons, D. French Slaughter, Jr. of Culpeper and Johnson Slaughter of Washington, D. C., a brother, John M. Slaughter, of Richmond; two sisters, Mrs. John S. Thornton and Mrs. Allen Thornton, both of Culpeper, and two grandchildren,, D. French, III anchKathleen Wilson Slaughter. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Charles Speight, pastor of Mitchells Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. John Jordan, rector of St. ' Stephen's Episcopal Church. Pallbearers included R. Cameron Thompson, Rufus G. Roberts, Lewis P. Nelson John M. Slaughter, Jr., J. Carlton Eller, T. E. McMullen, Harvey Carpenter, Jr. and Carlin Inskeep.
