land during the entire year. In 1952, 229 fires burned 4,673 acres of forest land. However, about one half of this total occurred in the fall. Due to the existing weather conditions at the time, fires which burned in 1963 in late March and the entire month of April will result in heavy damage to timber stands. Evidence has been seen on many of these fires, especial ly the larger fires, over fifty percent of the trees have been killed. Many ot tne trees left will bear fire scars.
