Teenagers Attention!! This is an exciting time for you. Many of you will be graduating from school and going to .work in the next few weeks. As an employee there are many things you will have to do and one of the most important, according to Mrs. Hazel F. Daly, Social Security District Manager, is to get a social security account number. Most persons in the work force today, both employees and those who are self-employed, are covered by social security. By covered it is meant that they pay a special tax on their earnings which in turn protects them, their dependents, and survivors against financial loss due to old-age, disability or death. These events are probably inconceivable to you now — but they strike without discrimination or warning. When they do, your social security account number may be your most important asset. All your earnings throughout the years are credited to that number, and it will be the basis of any claim you file. There are several important facts to keep in mind about your social security account number. First, if your name changes because of marriage or any other reason, be sure to file a change of name with yourv social security office. Secondly, if you ever lose your card, be sure to get a duplicate card. Last, but not least, your card comes in two parts. Sign and carry the main part and place the other card in a safe and accessible place.
