grew a garden full of lilies, gathering the petals carefully. She collected mutton suet here and there and made large quantities of Lily Salve which she prescribed for most every thing. . .and took great pride in giving to all her neighbors. A child with chapped lips and hands,visiting Miss Betsy and her two maiden^sisters, was always treated with this wonderful cure-all before leaving.
It was Lily Salve and sheep skin gloves that kept young hands soft and white for knitting for the soldiers of the Confederacy.

Robert L. Massie, Jr. is spending this week with his mother Mrs. F. W. Spalding and Mr. Spalding. He will then return to Richmond and for the second summer will be employed at the Virginia Treatment Center for Children at Medical College of Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Spalding, Jr. of Morristown, New Jersey and David W. Kendrick of Front Royal were Saturday guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Spalding. Mrs. Charles Reid of Washington was a Sunday dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. j Paul Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Joe L. Jenkins were Sunday visitors of Mrs. Jenkins’ brother-in-law Floyd Brown -ef Front Royal who is a patient in a Washington, D.C. hospital. Mr.and Mrs.JohnS.Browning were Monday bridge guests of Mr. and Mrs.Gene Wood of Sperryville. Mrs. J. Richard Latham is on vacation this weeek from her position at the Flint Hill Branch, of Citizens National Bank.
