Watermelons Virginia watermelon prices should remain about steady with no immediate increase in prices indicated. A plentiful supply of melons is now on the Virginia market Good size, ^quality melons, however, are expected to bring premium prices.
The watermelon market was off to a good start in the state--prices were $1.50 to $2.00 per hundred-wight but states south of Virginia cleaned their fields, glutting the markets to which Old Dominion melons were moving.
Virginia production of watermelons this year is about the same as last year. Prices last week at southeastern Virginia points'were $.85 to $1 per hundred-weight for 15 to 20 pound sizes and $1 to $1.50 per hundredweight for 20 to 25 pound sizes.
