How safe is your home for your children? Can they get into the medicine cabinet? Do you store household cleansers, bleaches, or disinfectants where they can be reached easily? Do you keep a loaded pistol or rifle in an unlocked cabinet? It is thought that some accidents happen to children because they do not realize the risk involved in what they are doing. It is your responsibility as' adults to help children learn the consequences of taking risks. How can children be helped to develop safety consciousness? Make reasonable rules and expect obedience. Adjust rules to' ages. Things that are permissible for a 5 year old, are not permissible for a child of 2. Remember that younger children imitate older ones and adults, so don’t cut safety corners yourself. Remove as many hazards as possible.
