Der, casn wages paid,and the time worked by each individual employed. It is the employer's responsibility to get this information and withhold and report the correct amount of social security tax. At present, the social security tax is 3-5/8 percent of the employee’s wages and this is matched by 3-5/8 percent from the employe making a total of 7-1/4 pejcent. This amount is payable to the Internal Revenue Service. The employer reports and pays this tax to Internal Revenue Service in January following the year of the employment.

If you are a crew leader, more likely than not, you are the employer of your group. Therefore, you are required to follow reporting rules as any other farm employer. However, if you have a written agreement with the farm employer stipulating that you are his employee, then you and your group are his employees and he makes the reports.
