Continuing dry weather has made It necessary to impose rigid restrictions to meet the ever-increasing -threat of forest fires within Shenandoah National Park, Acting Superintendent Jerry B. House stated today. A survey of conditions made by Assistant Chief Ranger Robert Kerr, in charge of fire control, indicates that the situation'has become critical, and with no rain in sight Park visitors- are asked to observe the following restrictions:
1. No open fires will be allowed anywhere within the Park, including campgrounds, picnic areas, trailside shelters, and PATC shelters. 2. No cross-country hiking. 3.
