Much of the farmland of the Commonwealth is well adapted to the production of row crops, while other acres less suited for row crops are capable of producing good pastures. Still other acres will yield their greatest economic return in the production of woodland products, an environment for wildlife, and recreation, protection of water supplies, and suitable sites for industry. It is with deep gratitude to individual landowners, to Soil Conservation Districts, to all agricultural agencies and organizations and to the Virginia citizenry as a whole that I express appreciation for the noteworthy progress that has been made in conserving anddeveloping these indispensable naturalresources.
