Mrs. Hazel F. Daly, district manager of the social security office in Winchester, Virginia, offered a few tips today on how to get your first social security check when it is due. If you are near ing retire ment age, Mrs. Daly suggests that you get in touch with your social security office, and take some proof of your age with you. Have a member of her staff examine whatever proof you may have to see it if will be acceptable when you retire.
Should you need better evidence of your date of birth, you will be given information to help you get that additional evidence. If you are within three months of retirment age, the social security office can take your application for benefits now. Go to the social security office .and take with you proof of your age and your social security card, of course. Mrs. Daly said that even though you are still working and are 65 years old, you can apply at any time. Many people think that you have to retire completely to get any benefits. This is not true, Mrs. Daly said.
