Richmond — The State Highway Department has asked contractor for bids to resurface some 4,000 miles of secondary roads and several hundred miles of primary highways fft this year’s restoration program. Bids on 11, 972, 419 gallons of regular bituminous material and 54^,789 tons of aggregates for covering material to do the work will be opened here at 10 a.m. March 25. The work will get under way in the early spring and continue until completed in the early fall.
The resurfacing will preserve existing pavements and restore smooth-riding surfaces on highways throughout the state where traffic and winter weather have damaged and roughened paved roads. State forces will resurface an additional 2,000 miles in other areas during the year. Bids also will be requested soon on heavy-duty asphalt resurfacing of the more heavily traveled primary and secondary roads.
