Plans New Building
The Washington Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Squad held their monthly meeting on Monday night. Officers were elected for the coming year as follows: President, Charlie Jenkins, Vice President, Frank Stringfellow; Fire Chief, Gibson Whorton; Assistant Chief, Edward Clark, Secretary and Treasurer, Bertha M* Armel. Directors: Charge Jenktas, William L, Estes, Jr., Henry Hudson. Engineers: Charlie Jenkins, Frank Stringfellow and Ennis Jenkins. Captain Rescue Squad Bertha M. Armel. The Fire Company and Rescue Squad have recently purchased land for their future Fire House and Carnival grounds. The company is badly in need of finances. Interest Apparent in Town Decorating Contest
The Christmas Decorating Contest sponsored by the Town of Washington has started to create interest and effort aB exgerior decorations are starting to blossom. The Town Christmas tree was lighted this week with Council woman Bertha C. Armel in charge of activities. The Council voted to sponsor the Christmas door decorating contest this year to promote interest in making the town more attractive during the holidays and to point up safety through fire prevention. Judging will take place on Saturday, December 26 between 7 and 9 p.m. Those with exterior decorations lighted at that time will be considered and in addition to residents, town water users will also be eligible for the contest
