The historic Court House of Rappahannock County was the setting for the founding of the Rappahannock County Historical Society on December 14, 1964. Fifty-eight people expressed desire to become charter members at the meeting, with many others who had written or phoned for membership.
A slate of officers presented *by>.Mrs. ja> jftUMilUafa nominating committee chairman, was elected to serve for one year. E. M. Jones was elected first President, Mrs. Mary B. Quaintance, Vice Preside nt, Mrs. Johns. Browning,Secretary, and Robert L. Brown, Treasurer, with Mrs. Frances Foster, Assistant Treasurer. The Chaplain is to be the Rev. Charles F. Glaenzer and William M. Carrigan was appointed to coordinate the Society’s activities. Other appointments will be made soon to the offices of Librarian and Historian.
It was voted to provide charter membership to all who registered with the Society before the first board meeting which will be held at the Court House on February 8, 1965. This is the birthday of the -county which was cut from Culpeper on February 8,1833. The dues of the Society were determined by vote from a resolution presented by Mr.
