The Rev. James B. Grimmer, Minister of the Rappahannock Methodist C ha rge, successfully completed a summerprogram of six weeks supervised clinical training at Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, D. C. under the direction of Chaplain James T. Hall, Chaplain Supervisor. Attending five days weekly, the m i n i s t e rs participating in the program developed skills in pastoral care which will aid them in their roles as Christian ministers. From psychiatrists, physicians, and the chaplain they learned technical information about human personality and the art of making the love of Christ relevant to people in crisis. Approximately 40 hours of lectures by the chaplain and medical faculty were centered around the practical problems which the minister faces in his work as pastor - ministry to the bereaved, the sick, the dying, pastoral counseling, the role of the minister, the relationship of emotions to illness, and the theological dfmensions of clinical experience. In addition personal conferences, group seminars, verbatim reporting, and the case history methods were used in an atmosphere open to question and criticism to encourage learning and selfunderstanding.
