State Progresses in
Foreign Marketing
Virginia has been singled out for special commendation in promoting foreign marketing of its agricultural products in the latest issue of Foreign Agriculture, the weekly publication of the Foreign Agriculture Service of the United States Department of Agriculture. The article makes special mention of programs initiated by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and the Virginia Farm Bureau, which have sold Virginia produced commodities in Europe and South America. The feeder cattle sales and the Approved Practices Program for FlueCured Tobacco were given special mention. Last year, according to the article, fourteen percent of Virginia’s crops went overseas--up two-thirds in ten years. This means that the produce from one acre in every seven was sold abroad. Of special interest is the fact that when they leave our seaports they don't come back to haunt us like c rops that go into storage. They’re gone for good. And the cash we get for them comes in handy, too.
