For Culpeper Council

A Culpeper businesswoman. Mrs. Bruce Bowie, has received the Culpeper Business and Professional Women's Club’s endorsement for a seat on the Culpeper Town Council. t Mrs. Bowie, 33, works with her husband in operation of the Bowie Printing Co. at 114 N. East St. Mrs. Bowie said this morning that she will file for the election sometime before the April 15 deadline. Four councilmen or women will be elected in municipal elections June 14. The seats currently held by W. D. Reams Sr., E. O. Willis Jr., Mayor T. I. Martin and R. J. Bruce will be in contest. Mrs. Bowie, a native of Wash ington in Rappahannock County, was graduated from Washington High School in 1950. She holds a B. A. degree in English and history from Mad ison College. Mrs. Bowie, the former Gladys Reid, and her husband ran the Rappahannock News from 1953 until 1956. Mrs. Bowie taught seventh grade at the Warrenton School in Fauquier County for two years. In 1959, the couple moved to Culpeper and opened the Bowie Printing Co. Mrs. Bowie is a member of the Washington Methodist Church in Rappahannock and attends the fellowship class of the Culpeper Baptist Sunday School. She is a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 79 and is a past guardian of Job’s Daughters Bethel 61. Mrs. Bowie is a member of the Culpeper Business and Professional Women's Club and of the Democratic County Committee. She is the second woman to run for the council, but would be the first to be elected. Her husband predicts Mrs. Bowie will give all competitors a hard fight. She works at everything she does,” he says.

Breaks Hip

Mrs. J. B. Johnson of Sperryville sustained a broken hip in a fall at her home Sunday. She is a patient in Culpeper Memorial Hospital where she underwent surgery Monday.
