Dip Netters Do Not
Need Fishing License
Anglers who will tJe dipping shad, herring, mullet and suckers during the next few weeks with a Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries dip-net license do not need a fresh water fishing license, the Game Commission’s law enforcement division announced. Persons assisting the dipper also need a dip-net license while persons catching these species with hook and line are required to have a regular fishing license. Dip net licenses are available from clerks and license agents in the counties where they are to be used and are valid only in that county. Seasons, limits and regulations covering the use of dip nets vary widely from one area to another so prospective dip-netters should carefully check their “Summary of Virginia Fish Laws* for details. Dip nets are prohibited in all designated trout waters.
