Vessel S.S. Brasil Assists Stranded Crew
The S. S. Brasil of the Moore McCormack Lines with Captain C. G. Reid in command went to the assistance of a stranded vessel off the Florida coast at 3 p. m. February 11. According to the ship’s log, the vessel, S. T. Padre Island, of Panamanian register was aground two miles from Great Isaacs lighthouse which is 55 miles east of Port Everglades, Fla. The Padre Island abandoned ship with the captain and six men remaining aboard, and the S. S. Brasil picked up 24 survivors. After medical examination and a hot meal aboard the S. S. Brasil the survivors were transferred to the U. S. Coast Guard Cutter Cape Knox who continued to stand by the stranded vessel. At 7 p.m. the S. S. Brasil was released by the U. S. Coast Guard rescue unit and resumed course, which was to South America. Captain Reid is the son of Mrs. C. G. Reid of Washington, Va.
